Sometimes… when everyone is turning right… try turning another way… more often than not you’ll find something much better…

Based in Lisbon, The Peculiar Eye is a sort of journal that values observation over urgency. It doesn’t follow a fixed schedule, instead appearing when the time is right. Through an assortment of content, The Peculiar Eye aims to share stories and capture moments that will fascinate the curious and inspire the imagination.

Our aim with each issue is to offer a collection of images and stories that will allow you to pause for a moment, and enjoy captured fragments of life worthy of a second look.

With no rush and no rules, The Peculiar Eye invites you to take a moment, observe and enjoy.

There is a particular joy in veering off the beaten path—not to escape, but to discover. The best bits of life aren’t always in the spotlight - they’re tucked away. To seek out the peculiar is to reawaken wonder. It’s to discover. Lifes not meant to be polished, but rather it's playful, messy, full of strange beauty and intriguing mysteries. Every twist in the path isn’t just a change in direction—it’s an invitation. A chance to see something differently, to feel something more deeply, to find a piece of the world we hadn’t noticed before.

For the Peculiar Eye - it is not about having the right camera.

It’s about having the right attention. Picking the right moment. Framing it. Preserving it for others to see, your way,  in a style not bound by rules or norms. A bit of grain, texture, the unexpected adding deeper meaning to each moment captured. A different angle, a new way of seeing.

While we normally chase the perfect picture, the peculiar photographer can embrace the chaos. Sometimes the best photos — the ones that make you look twice — come from the moments you can’t plan. They are shot from the hip - a quick snap capturing that unexpected fragment of a second that will never be seen again. After all.. Life at its purest is a series of spontaneous actions that form into a sense of organization.

We don’t live in a postcard — we live in a world where the beautiful and the broken share the same frame. When you capture that, your photo doesn’t just look nice — it says something. It challenges people to see what they usually overlook. It invites them to pause, to question, to feel.

A curious observer, The Peculiar Eye can find the light amidst the darkness. It embraces the subtleties that turn the ordinary into extraordinary. It can escape convention. It wanders, ready for that moment – that fleeting moment that comes as quickly as it is gone.

The Peculiar Eye can play with colours. Tries out new filters. A photographic scientist, whether classic styles or experiments gone wild.
